At Cascadia we believe that wine is an extension of the vineyard. We feel that the love and respect implemented into farming techniques and soil stewardship creates a raw material that is destined for greatness. Winemaking techniques are only applied as a tool to shepherd it into its full potential. Minimal intervention allows a showcase of its unique terroir.
The idea of “Cascadia” was first imagined in the early 1800’s during the time of Lewis and Clark’s exploration of the Pacific-Northwest. Thomas Jefferson wrote of a free, independent Pacific empire surrounded by cascading waterfalls. He was awestruck by the stories of the great mountains, rivers, and valleys lush with Redwoods, Firs, and Evergreens. It was botanist David Douglas who first named the Cascade range in his 1826 journals describing the cascading waterfalls, surrounded by natives toting their fishing implements as the salmon ran up the rushing rivers and streams.
We were also awestruck by the magic and beauty of this magnificent bioregion. We are now proud to call it home.
