CLAIM JUMPER, Tempranillo (2022) Apricity Vineyard
We believe Tempranillo is one of the best suited varieties for southwestern Oregon. The 2023 Claim Jumper Tempranillo from the Apricity Vineyard, is a great example. Colin, our winemaker, let this bold and extroverted wine age more time in barrel than would typically be prescribed for the bigger wines he has made over the years. Claim Jumper spent 22 months in barrel with 40% new oak. On the palate, you may experience jammy dark berries and plums, unami, savory herbs, cigar box, and leather chaparral, with a metamorphic minerality. Rich, grippy, and long in the finish, this wine will benefit with some bottle aging. Traditionally in Rioja Spain, Tempranillo would be paired with lamb that has been grilled over the cains and wood from the pruned vines. Charcuterie, spanish cheeses, tapas style dishes, red meat, and BBQ will pair well.
